Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV makes launch debut at Staines Gymnasium

We find out how the Chertsey Mitsubishi launch of the new Outlander SUV plug-in hybrid went in the rather unusual fitness-centre setting

To help raise the profile of the new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV – which has already been reviewed by my good-self right here on this very website – Mitsubishi just had to do something unusual; something that would be taken note of and, with any luck, remembered.

Although I doubt that any car can live up to the launch of the James Bond themed Range Rover Sport launch last year (where whole roads were closed off for a spectacular Manhattan party), this was certainly an interesting introduction into what I think is going to be a real game-changing vehicle.

Outlander PHEV launch

So – back to Staines. It may not be as glamorous as New York but the Thames Health Club held a special launch event where people could take out the new plug-in EV hybrid for a spin.

In addition, the team showed participants the ropes in special workshops that covered charging the vehicle, the Plug-In grant, economy and also the benefits of running this type of vehicle if you are a company car driver.

Brand Manager at Chertsey Mitsubishi, Saul Hodder, said;

“It was a really busy evening and thanks to all the excitement that has built up around Outlander PHEV we had plenty of people coming along who were keen to take the vehicle for a test drive.

The workshops provided us with a really good opportunity to explain all the exciting things PHEV can do and we had a number of sales as a result.”

What does a Mitsubishi Outlander cost?

My money is on this vehicle becoming a big hit, but only if the deals are there to make the Outlander PHEV cost non-prohibitive (after all, it’s not a cheap car, even with the £5k grant).

Don’t forget that my company, Neva Cambridge Vehicle Leasing, has a very special offer at the moment; running such a cost effective and practical car has never been so attractive.
