Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 PHEV GX3h 5dr Auto Review

I drive the new plug-in hybrid to see for myself how it cuts the mustard in what is a very niche – but very competitive – sector

These days it’s all about green cars. You may not be aware of this but certain folks predict that most of us will have dumped the combustion engine altogether by 2040; petrol and diesel engines will undoubtedly be sent to Room 101 at some point.

Looking around today, it’s difficult to imagine this happening. After all, it’s only 25 years from now. So this will – hopefully – be something that we will witness within our lifetimes.

Mitsubishi have joined the green car revolution a little late in the day but what they have on the table is not your standard fayre hatchback. It is a very useable, everyday real-world car.

So, as part of negotiating a great deal on a Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 PHEV GX3h, I went to find out for myself.
Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 PHEV Hybrid Plug-In Driven

The first thing that struck me was the exterior design. This environmentally-friendly car was actually very attractive. First tick in the box.

Second tick was the interior.

Inside, there was plenty of room even for a tall occupant like myself (I’m 6 ft 2” so I consider myself to be a rather good judge of this) – no elbow-room issues or head-room problems here. There was also a very decent size boot area; there’s 591 litres of space when the seats are up and when they are folded down, this extends to a whopping 1022 litres.
Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid Plug-In Fuel Savings

Here’s what you want to know about. Fuel consumption. This car will do some serious MPG – we’re talking about 90 mpg (and that’s real world). Rather interestingly, it is also surprisingly rapid; official figures reckon that it takes 11 seconds to reach 62 mph but it felt an awful lot faster than that.

It also handled very nicely; I tested it out on different types of roads and it tackled them all with great aplomb.

When you look at the Outlander PHEV it is a very interesting prospect overall. It’s practical, it is congestion charge exempt (there are only four other plug-in hybrids to choose from unless you want to go fully EV which, let’s face it, is not for everyone) and there is a huge amount of tech inside the car too.

But the Outlander PHEV is not cheap – the range starts at £33,249 OTR. The good news is this: we have negotiated a very special deal that makes it very affordable. Take a look below at the very special offer and standard equipment – please do not hesitate to call me on 01223 893260 to find out more or alternatively, just click here.
