Icon of automotive design: Meet the De Tomaso Mangusta

Famous model to go under the hammer at Historics late summer sale at Brooklands Museum on Saturday 30thAugust

During its four-year life span (1967-1971) 401 De Tomaso Mangusta models were built and over 250 of these were sold in the USA.
An immaculate 1969 example has now left sunny California for Surrey and will be on offer at the Historics’ auction on August 30th at an estimate of £210,000 – £254,000.

The birth of De Tomaso Mangusta

Argentinian racing driver, Alejandro de Tomaso was the man behind the car. He initially moved to Italy to develop his own race cars before he then turned his talents to creating road cars.
With the help of Italian styling maestro Giorgetto Giugiaro and Turin’s legendary coachbuilder Ghia, the Mangusta was the first road car they built and USA car enthusiasts were further pulled in by the fitment of an all-American V8 muscle engine.

The red Mangusta on offer from Historics is in amazing condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. The interior and exterior are flawless, as is the 4.9 litre Ford V8 that bursts into life instantly.
With documentation dating back over 30 years, the professional care and devotion to the car is clear to see.
The car also comes equipped with grey leather interior and has had air conditioning fitted.
There is an estimated 250 examples remaining across the globe and with its value rising, this rare and original De Tomaso Mangusta represents a unique opportunity to acquire an impeccable supercar.
I will certainly be keeping an eye on how much this iconic model goes for. For more information and  a full list of items on auction, visit www.historics.co.uk.
